How to Fix Minecraft Lag on Low-End PCs (4GB RAM) -- Complete FPS GUIDE

 Introduction

Many people face lag and stuttering in their game because of their low-end PC which mainly happens due to the poor optimization of the game.

The good news is that it is actually possible to increase your FPS and fix stuttering in your low-end PC, all you need is the right settings, mods and tweaks.

In this post I will share the best settings, mods and tweaks to fix lag and stuttering in your game.

These methods are simple, effective and tested on a 4GB RAM PC, so you can apply them easily without needing a high-end system.

## 1. Use Performance Mods

Performance mods increases the options in video settings which gives more room for optimization which can help reduce lag and stuttering further.

Mods like Sodium, OptiFine and lithium greatly increases FPS and reduce lag and stuttering. For detailed information on these mods you should check my post on the best mods to increase FPS : https://lowendpcgamingtips.blogspot.com/2026/04/best-mods-to-fix-lag-in-minecraft-low.html?m=1

## 2. Closing Background Apps

Gamers use discord or open browsers in their background while playing games which can cause lag and stuttering.

Closing background apps can significantly increase FPS since it free up RAM and CPU usage which was getting consumed by those apps.

## 3. Optimize Video Settings

Turning off useless effects or animations, reducing render chunk distance and lowering graphics can significantly reduce lag and increase FPS.

Video settings is the first step that you should make to reduce lag in your system. I would recommend you to check out my best settings post for detailed information regarding settings : https://lowendpcgamingtips.blogspot.com/2026/04/best-minecraft-settings-for-low-end-pc.html?m=1

## 4. Using Lower Resolution

Playing the game on high resolution increases the GPU load which makes your system lag and decreases FPS.

After lowering the resolution you would see a sudden boost in FPS since the load on GPU has lowered by a lot. Make sure to still play the game in full screen even after lowering the resolution.

## 5. Use Lightweight Launcher

Lightweight Launcher uses fewer system resources and consume less RAM and CPU usage which helps the game to run faster and provide optimal performance.

Launchers like Prism Launcher or MultiMC works very well in low-end PCs and reduce lag and stuttering. For detailed information regarding these Launchers check out my recent post about the best launchers for low-end PCs : https://lowendpcgamingtips.blogspot.com/2026/04/best-minecraft-launchers-for-low-end-pc.html?m=1

## 6. Allocate RAM Properly

Proper allocation of RAM is more important than people think, people think that allocating more RAM would mean that the game would run faster, However this statement is totally incorrect since allocating more RAM would cause a RAM shortage for system which would make not only the game but the whole PC lag.

The proper allocation of RAM should be, if you have 4GB RAM allocate 2GB and if you have 2GB RAM then allocate 1GB. Basically allocate half of the RAM that you have for better performance.

## 7. Use Older Versions

The newer versions include newer game mechanics, higher quality, new biomes and mobs which greatly increases the system requirements of the game which makes it difficult to run on low-end PCs.

That is why using older versions is a brilliant choice if you still wants to play Minecraft smoothly in your system. If have already made a post on the best Minecraft versions for low-end PCs which you should check out : https://lowendpcgamingtips.blogspot.com/2026/04/best-minecraft-versions-for-low-end-pc.html?m=1

Personal Experience

I have been using all these methods on my own low-end PC which contains 4GB RAM and Intel HD Graphics.

I used to get around 15-20 FPS in version 1.21.4 and after applying these methods my FPS boosted from that to 40-60 FPS in the same version which might not be that much but it was still playable and better than nothing.

Conclusion

You don't need a high-end PC with expensive hardware to enjoy Minecraft and have fun, all you need is a good guide to be able to optimize your game to its full potential.

I have gotten a significant FPS boost from these methods and your would too.

Final Tip

For best results I would recommend you to combine all these methods in certain ways as you suit to increase FPS even further.

If you are still facing lag and stuttering after using these methods or you have any kinds of problem regarding this post then you are free to leave a comment down and I would try to reply with a solution as soon as possible.
